Attention dilettantes! This is the group for you. If you enjoy everything from music and theatre to visiting a rare bird sanctuary, Gadabouts does it all. During the summer, the members gather suggestions and meet to identify the final list and determine a coordinator each event. The activity dates vary depending on the event. Lunch and History at Rainbow Lodge.
Thursday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. – Our lunch destination is Rainbow Lodge, a favorite venue of times past This remote and beautiful riverside lodge has a rich history, dating back to the 1800s, that few people know. Tucked along the Yuba River, it is surrounded by its original stone walls. Weather permitting, we can eat outside and view the Yuba River.
The original section of the lodge was built in the late 1800’s and was originally used as a stage stop. Extensions were made in the 1920’s. After the extension, the lodge became a popular stop for local residents who enjoyed a little gambling. As the years went on, Rainbow Lodge went from a popular gambling joint to a famous fishing stop. Today the lodge operates as a bed and breakfast inn, catering to summer vacationers and winter snow enthusiasts.
We will meet for carpooling at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 16 for the trip to Rainbow Lodge near Soda Springs. Meet at the Gold Country Center at Brunswick and Sutton. Park facing Brunswick in front of Sleep Shop or AutoZone. Contact Sally Smith to be included, or if you have questions.
