Writing Group

November 2023, at Madelyn Helling Library

The Writing Group meets monthly, every second Monday 11:00- AM – 1:00 PM. Members share current work for critique and suggestions, brainstorm writing topics, and discuss how to get around challenges. If you are thinking about writing or already working on a writing project, please feel welcome to join us. We meet monthly to share our work, and to provide feedback and helpful suggestions. Please contact Deborah York at 925.216.6140 or email her at deborah11623@gmail.com if you are interested in joining or just sitting in on a session.

Past meetings: Monday, Nov 8, 1:30-3:00, on Zoom where members shared and discussed current writing projects; Friday Nov 29, 10:30-12:00, once again on Zoom, members discussed “Organizing your writing to become a novel someday.”

This is a great opportunity if you have been thinking about writing and need a bit of help and support to get it going. Members bring questions or issues that are getting in their way, draft work for review and feedback and ideas for improving our craft. Please contact Deb York for more info.

Meetings include a fun warm-up writing exercise, brief discussion on highlights from the reading, and time for members to share their work (if they want) and receive feedback from the group. We welcome anyone who has an inkling to write, is currently working on a writing project, or has already written short stories, poetry, novels, etc. and would like some camaraderie.

If you have thought about writing but don’t know how to start, or you have put pen to paper and gotten stuck, or you are currently working on a writing project, our group may be made especially for you! We are meeting monthly for 1.5 hours on Zoom to support and encourage each other, identify topics we would like to learn more about, and provide feedback on written materials as requested.
